| What happened next | Public BBB complaint describing both attributions on one claim. |
One claim, two deflections, as the policyholder reports it: an electrical surge attributed to the utility company, and door damage attributed to earth movement. Neither attribution pays; each points somewhere else, the power company you can chase or the ground you cannot.
Earth movement is among the broadest exclusions in the HO-3, and its breadth is exactly why it needs evidence: soil movement severe enough to rack door frames leaves signatures, foundation cracking, slab displacement, elevation change, that a geotechnical report can confirm or rule out. An earth-movement call made from a doorway is a label, not a finding. The utility deflection carries its own tell: a surge traveling the grid hits neighbors too, and a one-house surge event usually is not one.
This is the fourth People’s Trust document in the library, the deepest carrier file in the archive: settling, wear, roof-opening underpayment, and now the double deflection. The pattern is the product.
