General patterns reported on this type of claim, not specific findings about FedNat Insurance. Every claim turns on its own policy and facts.
Two things happened, four months apart. First, prior to liquidation FedNat entered an assumption agreement with Monarch National Insurance Company, and Monarch assumed all obligations for FedNat Florida policies as of June 1, 2022, about 78,000 policies. The Receiver states the liquidation does not affect those assumed policies. Second, FedNat Insurance Company was ordered into liquidation on Sept. 27, 2022 by the Second Judicial Circuit Court in Leon County with about 13,000 policies still in force, canceled Oct. 27, 2022. If your policy moved to Monarch, call Monarch at 800-293-2532. If it stayed with FedNat, Florida claims are handled by FIGA at 800-988-1450.
Often, yes, and the answer depends on which entity owes it. On a Monarch assumed policy, Monarch is the carrier, and a Monarch decision is disputed like any carrier's: request the full claim file and the specific policy basis in writing. On a claim left in the FedNat estate, FIGA stands in FedNat's place on covered Florida claims. The claim-filing deadline in the estate was Sept. 27, 2023 and the Receiver states that no claims bar date has been established, so later matters go through the Receiver's electronic submission process. FedNat also wrote outside Florida, and those claims went to the guaranty associations in Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina.
