General patterns reported on this type of claim, not specific findings about St. Johns Insurance. Every claim turns on its own policy and facts.
St. Johns Insurance Company, Inc. was ordered into liquidation on Feb. 25, 2022 by the Second Judicial Circuit Court in Leon County, with the Florida Department of Financial Services as Receiver. Policies were canceled March 1, 2022, and about 147,000 were in force. Florida claims moved to FIGA, the Florida Insurance Guaranty Association, which pays covered claims up to $300,000 per claim with an additional $200,000 for structures and contents on homeowners claims. South Carolina claims went to SCPCIGA. FIGA claim status: 800-988-1450.
Often, yes, and the first step is confirming who owes it. Slide Insurance Company wrote replacement coverage from March 1, 2022 forward and is responsible only for losses on or after that date, so a St. Johns-era loss stays with the guaranty associations. The Receiver lists a claims filing deadline of Feb. 27, 2023 and states that no claims bar date has been established, so later filings go through the Receiver's electronic submission process. FIGA lists Feb. 25, 2024 as the final date to settle a claim or file suit. Deadlines are unforgiving after an insolvency: date every document, request your complete claim file, and get advice quickly.
